New movies…and a vote!

In the continuing Adventures of Ruby at Used Book Sales: I now have these new movies to add to my growing collection of Christian films:

The Second Coming of Christ (Featuring Dr. Tim LaHaye!)–part of Jerry Falwell Ministries’ Biblical Journeys Video Library.  One Dr. Ed Hindson goes through the Book of Revelation, then LaHaye does a two-part section on the second coming.

Bibleman Jr., Volume #4: God’s Beautiful World

Bibleman Jr., Volume #3: God Loves to Laugh.

(I knew of the existence of the Bibleman videos, which look like a Bible-toting superhero, but these Bibleman Jr. videos kinda look like Barney the Dinosaur Does Sunday School.)

All of which leads me to an idea–it’s been some time since my last movie review, and I think I will ask my loyal readers (all three of you 😉 ) to vote on the movie.

Here are your choices.

1.  My new Bibleman Jr. videos (if it matters, these are VHS, which means no screenshots)

2.  Second Glance (an It’s A Wonderful Life rip-off by the Christiano Brothers, who brought us The Pretender)

3. Another venture into vintage Christian Youth films with Teenage Witness, in which clean-cut Terry evangelizes to poor unchurched Rod, who would go on to play Major Don West on Lost in Space.

  1. Has to be your call, I think, but #2 and #3 both sound thoroughly ripe for mocking.

  2. I couldn’t choose between 1 and 2, so I tossed a coin. Three times. Twice the outcome was in Bibleman Jr.’s favour, so… probably Second Glance, then.

  3. I’m going to go with Teenage Witness, just ’cause.

  4. Gosh… they all sound pretty horrid and I couldn’t subject another human being to this sort of thing, even if they were consenting! Though to be honest, Bibleman Jr. sounds like the most hilarious and least cringeworthy of the bunch. Probably because there’s only so much bad theology you can cram down the developing minds of young’uns.

  5. Pretrib Rapture & Ed Hindson

[Dr. Ed Hindson’s “What To Do If You’re Left Behind” article inspired the following.]

What a wishy-washy ingrate Ed LeftBehindson is! He received most of his doctorates from (non-pretrib) schools like Westminster, but Falwell’s deep pockets at close-minded (pretrib) Liberty University bribed Hindson into becoming an alma mater backstabber as well as a slavish plagiarist. Google “Appendix F: Thou Shalt Not Steal” to see Hindson’s plagiarism of a fellow fundy’s book. One member of his writing team – Ed Dobson – apologized, but Hindson and Falwell never did! Google articles Hindson doesn’t want anyone to read include “Famous Rapture Watchers,” “Pretrib Rapture Diehards,” “Pretrib Rapture Secrecy,” “Edward Irving is Unnerving,” “Scholars Weigh My Research,” “Pretrib Rapture Politics” and (most shocking of all) “Pretrib Rapture Dishonesty.”

  6. Bibleman is actually even better than just a superhero – Bibleman is also a traveling live wrestling show. There’s a chapter all about it in the book Get Rapture Ready!: My Adventures in the Parallel Universe of Christian Pop Culture.
